Our Motherland India was under the British subjugation for nearly about a couple of centuries. It was after the victory in the Battle of Plassey in the year 1757, that the British consolidated their position and became the paramount power in India. They took the advantage of the political turmoil and followed the policy of Divide and Rule. The year 1857 was a significant year in the history of Indian Independence. The revolt of 1857 was the first attempt to attain freedom. Though it commenced as sepoy munity it spread to other parts of the country as well. There were many martyrs   like Rani Laxamibai, Tantiya Tope and Mangal Pandey who sacrificed their lives for the sake of attaining freedom. Although the revolt of 1857 was suppressed by the British it showed a path to several Indians.

Bhagat Singh popularly known as Shaheed E Azam was born on September 28 1907 Jaranwala Tehsil in Punjab. As a teenager he studied the Revolutionary movements that took place in the European countries and was much influenced by the Marxism and Atheism He was involved in a number of revolutionary activities. His believe was that India could only get freedom from the English rule by resorting to extremism and violence. Soon he became a very popular figure of the revolutionary movement. He joined the Hindustan Republican Association and became one of its prominent leaders along with Chandrasekhar Azad and Ramprasad Bismil.  The Jallianwala Bagh brutal massacre on April 13 1919 enraged him and it was then he decided to quit pen and join the revolutionaries. Lala Lajpat Rai succumbed to injuries protesting against the Simon Commission. He was determined to seek revenge of this incident and teach a lesson to the British.

Before leaving his house and joining the freedom struggle he wrote a letter to his parents stating that

“My life has been dedicated to the noblest cause, that of the freedom of the country. Therefore, there is no rest or worldly desire that can lure me now …”

It was Bhagat Singh who initially gave the slogan of Inquilab Zindabad which became immensely popular afterwards. He also killed the British police officer John Saunders. But he came into limelight when he threw two bombs in the Central Legislative Assembly in 1930 along with Batukeshwar Dutt.   He underwent a fast for about 116 days in the prison demanding equal rights for the British and Indian political prisoners.  He was resorted to inhuman torture in the prison but he did not give any information to the police about his other companions.

He was finally hanged on March 23 1931 in Lahore Central Jail along with Rajguru and Sukhdev. He was only 23 years then. He continued to inspire his countrymen towards achieving their final goal. He is an idol for the youth of our nation even today.

One of the most likeable stars around, Smith has a very physical and palpable excitement for life. No wonder he’s a movie star. That passion of his is magnetic. He is a successful American actor, producer, and rapper. In April 2007, Newsweek called him to be the most powerful actor in Hollywood. He has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards, and has won four Grammy Awards.

In 1990, the NBC television network signed him to a contract and built a sitcom, The Fresh Prince of BelAir, around him. The show was successful and helped revitalize his career. Although he made a notable dramatic film debut in Six Degrees of Separation, Smith’s film career took off with his role in Bad Boys (1995) along with co-star Martin Lawrence.

After The Fresh Princeof Bel-Air ended in 1996, Smith began a successful solo music career while simultaneously starring in a series of films. Kareena, nicked as Bebo comes from the country’s first acting family and is the daughter of actor Randhir Kappor and Babita Kapoor. Born in the most iconic family that have been actors for generations, including her paternal great-grandfather, her grandfather, her paternal uncles,  as well as aunts.

Over the past 10 years we have seen Kareena Kapoor bloom into one of the most sought-after actresses and style icons in India. We have watched her go from dating chocolate boy Shahid Kapoor to mature gentleman Saif Ali Khan and we’ve also seen her go from a full figure to a slender size zero!

An unlikely film for a new comer, Kareena was shown in an avatar devoid of extravagance in her debut flick Refugee. From timid to fiercely sexy Kareena’s temptress looks in Asoka made her extremely desirable. We then saw her in Chameli where she really got into the skin of the character in this movie. Later released her Jab We Met, where Kareena in contrast to Shahid who is a somber guy in this movie, played the exuberant one. In tune with her bubbly personality, we see her in an eclectic wardrobe, with really cute “desi” hints. We must say we like the change.

Then with the entry of Tashan, we saw the new Kareena. With her toned body and sexy avatar, she took all by surprise. Even though the film flopped t hat look sure didn’t! She made size zero extremely popular. Then with the release of We Are A Family, came kareena’s perfect representation of a fun, successful, modern woman. Her later releases w ere 3 Idiots, Body Guard, Ra-one where she successfully played the role of a young, charming “Chamak Challo”  Her skin retained its glow, her body was not too skinny and her clothes were well picked. We must surely say Hats off to Kareena! And now after several hiccups, the journey of Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine has finally taken off on her birthday. All we want to say her is  The girl surely has to go a long way!

Promoting awareness for a Alzheimer free world

•September 20, 2012 • Leave a Comment

September 21st is World Alzheimer’s Day. This day was started by an initiative of the Alzheimer organizations all across the world, to promote awareness about this disease and its cure. Alzheimer is a disease that is the most common form of dementia among adults. This disease affects that part of the brain that controls memory and thought. Hence the people afflicted with this disease are unable to carry out even their normal routine activities. This disease affects older people generally above age 64. Every 68 seconds, one person in the world is getting afflicted with this disease. By now almost 18million people are suffering from Alzheimer. And by 2025, it is expected to grow to figures crossing 34 million.

Alzheimer disease is often called a family disease because watching your family member or your loved one suffer affects the other people also. Alzheimer is the sixth leading cause of death in U.S. and one among the top ten diseases that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed.

The people whose family members are suffering from this terrible disease wear purple to promote awareness about this disease and also as an attempt to find a cure for this disease. Standing with the ones affected by this disease is a great thing for them. That’s perhaps their biggest cure and support. We should also understand this fact that if they cannot be brought back to normal again, they should be given as much happiness as possible during their lifetime. Many youngsters have started visiting health care centers where people affected by this disease and isolated by their family members live. Doctors are still holding diagnosis for devising the cure of this disease, yet it’s not known till now. On the basis of findings from decades of research, in April 2011, the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the Alzheimer’s Association revised the diagnostic criteria for Alzheimer’s disease and characterized research guidelines. The previous criteria of 1985 focused on the later stages of the disease i.e. after the patient showed Alzheimer’s symptoms. The newly revised criteria cover the full spectrum of the disease as it gradually changes over many years, starting with preclinical changes in the brain that is likely to occur before any symptoms are noticed, progressing to mild cognitive impairment, and eventually memory loss. This September 21st you go purple and take initiative to face if not able to end Alzheimer’s disease completely.

International Peace Day: In making this world a safer and better place

•September 20, 2012 • Leave a Comment

Peace day was established by a resolution of United Nations in 1981. The first peace day was celebrated in September 1982 and thereafter in the year 2002, September 21st was officially declared as the International Day of Peace by the General Assembly. A very famous quote from the UN resolution that established Peace Day is:

“Peace Day should be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples. This day will serve as a reminder to all peoples that our organization, with all its limitations, is a living instrument in the service of peace and should serve all of us here within the organization as a constantly pealing bell reminding us that our permanent commitment, above all interests or differences of any kind, is peace.”

This was UN’s take on peace. This day is also known as Day of Ceasefire. You can take the help of this day to resolve your personal conflicts as well as political. Such a day would be great deal to humankind if celebrated daily, not just on September 21st. there are various ways in which people around the world celebrate this day. In some countries full-fledged programs are held to celebrate this day while others simply light candles in masses and meditate together. With increasing awareness people have started understanding that it’s not just a day of celebration but a day to invoke their inner spirits of peace. Small kids, teenagers, old and young people, everyone participate in the peace program and give their small and big contribution to this day by doing peace choir, tree planting for peace, holding exhibitions and ceremonies for peace.

However what every single mind should understand is that peace should be brought in their heart and their mind, only then they can bring peace in the society. White is the color for peace. It’s the color which is made out of all seven colors of the rainbow. Thus in some way or the other you can correlate the fact that if you bring peace in your life and your character, your life will be filled with colors just like the rainbow. Every single drop of water makes up an ocean. Similarly every single person’s attempt, however small it may be, will add to the peace of the nation, the world. The symbol for peace is a white dove. Let the bird fly around in your lives.
