KKR – The IPL Champion

The Indian Premier League or IPL is the latest craze among all the cricket-playing nations. It actually is the most pompous sponsor-driven tournament under the sun today, in terms of viewers as well as money. In the recent version of IPL-5, the Kolkata Knight Riders or better KKR – owned by a firm Red Chillies Entertainment under stewardship of Bollywood legend Shahrukh Khan and his onetime colleague famous actress Juhi Chawla, made it home with their debutant title of the trophy.

Some of the biggest names in the world of cricket like, Brett Lee, Jack Kallis, Brendon McCulllum along with our Indian icons Laxmipathy Balaji, Yusuf Pathan, skipper Gautam Gambhir, budding icon Shakib-al-Hassan, Manvinder Bisla and of course, our prosaic local heros Debabrata Das, Manoj Tiwari and Laxmiratan Shukla as the constituent particles the team KKR,  it finally ended the draught of the title by winning the final a few days back this time.  The West Indian of Indian origin, Sunil Narine played a crucial role throughout the tournament. At the backhand, coach Trevor Bayliss and the bowling coach, all-time great speedster Wasim Akram were at the members of the team’s think-tank who provided the technical and strategic aid to the team off the field.

Right after the heroic achievement, the entire team along with the distinguished owners, as a token of gratitude and respect to the people of Kolkata – the home base of KKR came down all the way to the city. Justice was handed-out to their noble effort by the people of Kolkata in the most adorable way possible. A feting tribute by people from all walks-of-life marked the victory celebration. People spontaneously same down on the streets with trumpets and customary dholaks and greeted the heroes. The government of West Bengal, in the presence of His Excellency the Governor gave the entire team a fitting tribute in a mass gathering. The honorable Chief Minister and senior members of her State Cabinet adored the occasion. The players and the entire supporting staff were felicited with golden mementos and traditional shawls, sweets and flowers.

This grand victory is supposed to be a shot-in-the-arm for everyone in this part of the country to draw inspiration from and boost up confidence.
